Parashat Noah - 5777

Dear friends,

Shalom from Jerusalem. The group is very excited to be in Eretz Yisrael. Imagine a mezuzah on all the hotel doors - and almost everyone speaks Hebrew!!

Last week we read of G-d's creation. It only took ten generations for Noah's generation to go bad. What did they do that was so terrible?

The Torah states that the land was filled with corruption. Their sin was not that they did not believe in G-d or sinned against G-d, but that they sinned against each other. The only solution was to get rid of them all and start over.

As we look around us we see so much corruption. The world does not have to answer to G-d for lack of faith in G-d but for being mean towards one another. We can ask, "With so much corruption and violence, what can one person do?"

The answer is in the story itself. G-d picked one family - Noah - as if to say 'yes', one person can save the universe. By doing acts of kindness, we can save the world - we can be the 'Noah's of the world.

It is wonderful to be in Israel.

Shabbat Shalom,

Avram
